Last week I launched a new side project I've been working on for the last month or so, LaterMail.
LaterMail gives your newsletter emails a dedicated space, outside of your inbox, where they can be read at your convenience, whenever your schedule allows. Think of it like an RSS feed for newsletter emails, wrapped in a nice, easy-to-use, cross-platform app.
I've been using Hey for a while and had been using "The Feed" to filter newsletter emails out of my inbox. Which worked well for a while. However, the sheer number of newsletters I'm subscribed to made it hard to keep up and I wanted a dedicated space, outside of my email client, to be able to read them. Initially, I tried getting newsletter emails into Pocket but this didn't work as well as I would have liked.
Just before going on holiday for a few days in October, I decided I'd build a dedicated app just for reading email newsletters. I wanted it to be super lightweight, ultra-focussed and cross-platform. So during my holiday, I spent my evenings hacking away on a prototype. I decided to use my normal stack for speed and low-maintenance development (Laravel, Inertia (Vue) and Tailwind CSS).
I'm pretty pleased with how it came out. As side projects go, I feel like I've hit the sweet spot of building an app that provides real value without being a burden to maintain. Check it out and let me know what you think.
