Get Going with Laravel's Artisan on Ubuntu

Published 17th June 2014

So you’ve got your fresh install of Ubuntu (I used 14.04) and you have deployed your Laravel app to the server. Now how do you get going so that you can use Laravel’s command line interface Artisan?

Install required packages

We are going to assume here you are running a standard LAMP stack.

sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install php5 php5-mcrypt php5-curl php5-mysql sudo php5enmod mcrypt

At this point you will probably need to restart Apache.

service apache2 restart

Install & run Composer

cd /path/to/your/app curl -sS https://getcomposer.org/installer | php php composer.phar install

Run Artisan

Great. Now you can run artisan commands, for example:

php artisan migrate
