Hi! I’m Gilbert. A Software Engineer living and working in the North of Scotland.

I currently work as a Web Developer for Delicious Brains and run my own one-man web development studio Dev7studios. I’m a christian, father, husband, drummer and petrol head.

Since 2013 I’ve been helping companies build full-blown SaaS apps using technologies such as Laravel and Vuejs. Before that I worked with a WordPress theme company and ran my own premium WordPress plugin business.

  • Studied Software Engineering at the University of Strathclyde (2005 – 2010)
  • Graduate Software Engineer at Aquidata Excel (2009 – 2011)
  • CEO at Dev7studios (WordPress Plugins) (2011 – 2016)
  • Web Developer at ThemeZilla (2011 – 2014)
  • Software Engineer at Dunked (2013 – 2015)
  • Software Engineer at Delicious Brains (2015 – present)

Noteable Work

Nivo Slider/Dev7studios

In 2011 I launched the Nivo Slider (a jQuery image slider) which became extremely popular and was downloaded 5+ million times over the course of four years. I later created a WordPress plugin for the Nivo Slider that generated £160k in revenue in the first two years. This kickstarted my WordPress plugin company Dev7studios which was sold in 2016.

In 2013 I helped Orman Clark and the team build and launch Dunked, an online portfolio builder for designers and creatives. I was responsible for building the entire platform from scratch. After just 3 months we had 70,000 registered users and were generating five-figures $/month in revenue.

In 2015 Delicious Brains set out on an ambitious journey to try and solve the problem of database merging in WordPress. I helped build an autoscaling Laravel app on AWS infrastructure that could handle millions of data points per day with unpredictable load. Sadly we couldn’t find product/market fit and the project was retired in 2018.

In 2018 I helped Delicious Brains build a unique WordPress hosting solution called SpinupWP. A service which allows you to spin up your own optimized WordPress server in 10 mins. I was responsible for building the backend API using Laravel and architecting the front-end of the app using Vue.js. I was also responsible for doing the UI mockups that would become the MVP of the product.
